Day 8 Wednesday July 4, 2007 Total Mileage 293 Miles

Day eight of the trip started out with a continental breakfast at the office, and cleaning up the rv, did showers and got ready to leave. We left there after I called my cousin Sandy in Phoenix telling her we might be heading her way. We crossed the continental divide at 9:49 am, and went to El Morro National Monument. Its a big park like area, it has a huge rock of mountain that the explorers and travels used to carve their names and dates into, its called Inscription Rock. We did the hike there walking up to the areas where the rock is carved, a water area, their were lizards there, critters and alot of those awful Fire Ants, YUCK. Kelly didn't want to walk because of all the red ants. We went back to the rv after the hike and headed towards Zuni Reservation country.

When we got to Zuni territory we stopped to go to one of the little Indian shops there where they sell the Indian made jewelry and carved stone and Turqoise stuff. As soon as we got out of the rv we were approached by a few Native Americans trying to sell us their wares. One guy wanted to sell us a Carved Fox, he said they go for around 50 to 75 in the store and he wanted 12 dollars. Richard talked him down to 5 dollars and his right eye was blood shot really bad, so I nicknamed him Chief One Red Eye. Then the next guy had a whole bunch of stuff, but we said no thanks. After going into the store and seeing how expensive the stuff was we went back to the rv, no sooner did I close the side door, someone was knocking, he had stuff to sell ! We crossed the Arizona border at 12:40 and got to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert at 12:47.

The view at the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest was incredible, but it was hotter than a firecracker there. We stayed there a bit and left heading west in Arizona and found a walmart in Winslow so in the parking lot I got my cell phone and called my friend Kay V, and when she answered in my awful singing voice, I hit her with, "I'm standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona" ! We got to Flagstaff and Black Barths RV Park which we didn't care so much for at 6:35.
