This badge is from the estate of a gentleman who was in his 90s and served in WWII over in Germany and was living in Western New York and looks to have brought back many original Nazi Germany badges and military collectibles. The badge has the eagle clutching the Nazi Swastika in its claws surrounded by a wreath. The badge has A and L64 on the back of the eagle, which signifies manufacturing by Assmann Und Sohn.
The badge is in excellent condition with solid clasps, good rivets, it will need cleaning as its in original condition, I'll leave that to the professional collector, so it doesnt get damaged.
The German Air Force or Luftwaffe started to issue the Luftwaffe Paratrooper Badge and by the year 1944 a year before the end of the war it was also awarded to other personnel who completed one combat jump, mainly admin, legal and medical personnel.
The paratrooper badge for the Luftwafe paratroopers was awarded to jumpers with Six jumps and those who passed a qualifying test. They also had to pass a test each year to maintain eligibility to maintain the award.
